GENERALS’ PENSIONABLE SALARY RISES TO N2.5M
The Federal Government has approved a new pensionable salary structure for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, with Generals, Admirals and Air Chief Marshals now eligible for up to N29.75m annually for pension purposes.
The new structure, approved by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, took effect from September 1, 2026. The highest annual pensionable salary for the top military ranks is N29,745,561, which is about N2.48m monthly when divided by 12.
The review follows an earlier adjustment of the Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure approved by President Bola Tinubu. The government said the new figures were prepared in line with constitutional provisions governing the review of public sector salaries and pensions.
Under the new structure, Lieutenant Generals, Vice Admirals and Air Marshals will have annual pensionable salaries ranging from N16.99m to N25.91m, while Major Generals, Rear Admirals and Air Vice Marshals will receive between N14.98m and N23.90m annually for pension purposes.
The commission stressed that the figures are pensionable salaries and should not be interpreted as the monthly take-home pay of serving military personnel.
The review is expected to affect pension calculations for military personnel and comes amid broader efforts to improve welfare within the Armed Forces.
