GAWUNA’S LOYALISTS MOVE BACK TO APC IN KANO

The National Democratic Congress in Kano State is set to lose some prominent members as loyalists of former Kano State Deputy Governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna prepare to return to the All Progressives Congress.

The development followed a solidarity visit by members of Gawuna’s political team to Governor Abba Yusuf and his deputy, Murtala Garo, on Tuesday night as part of consultations ahead of their planned move to the APC.

The delegation was led by Gawuna’s close ally, Muhammad Umar, and included the NDC Vice Chairman in Kano State, Ali Datti Yako, Mansur Gawuna, Uba Mijinyawa, popularly known as Uba Danzainab, and other members of the political team.

Umar said the group’s engagement with the state leadership was driven by its interest in the development of Kano and improving the welfare of residents.

Yako also expressed support for the Yusuf administration, saying its efforts to transform the state were visible to residents.

Gawuna was the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 Kano election but later left the party and joined the NDC, where he emerged as the party’s Kano Central senatorial candidate.

The planned movement of his loyalists to the APC comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections and could affect the balance of political forces in Kano.
