GAS EXPLOSION DESTROYS THREE-BEDROOM FLATS IN KWARA
A fire disaster caused by a sudden gas explosion on Sunday engulfed a building of three-bedroom flats in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The incident occurred around 16:27 at Temidere Community, Reke, within the local government area. The state fire service confirmed that all flats in the building were affected by the fire following the explosion.
Preliminary investigations indicated that a gas leak triggered the explosion, which then led to the fire outbreak.
Firefighters acted swiftly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further in the community.
The Director of the State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged residents to exercise caution when using gas. He advised regular inspections of gas cylinders, hoses, and regulators, ensuring proper ventilation, avoiding faulty or expired equipment, and shutting off gas immediately if a leak is suspected.
Falade emphasized that following basic gas safety practices is crucial in preventing explosions and minimizing property damage.
