Transfer: Why Big Clubs Passed on Osimhen – Gary Lineker Shares Insight

Football legend Gary Lineker has shed light on why some of Europe’s biggest clubs chose not to pursue Victor Osimhen during the summer transfer window, despite widespread interest.

Osimhen, who had been heavily linked with Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain, ended up joining Galatasaray on a permanent €75 million deal after a loan spell from Napoli.

However, according to Lineker, there may have been off-the-pitch concerns that made top teams think twice.

“I hear through the grapevine that some clubs are a bit nervous because he sometimes goes missing for a few days,” Lineker said on The Rest is Football podcast.
“So apparently, there are slight concerns about his character in that regard.”

While the Saudi side Al Hilal did make a serious offer, Osimhen turned it down, reportedly holding out for a European challenge. Surprisingly, it was Galatasaray — not one of the traditional elite — who secured his signature.

Despite questions over his discipline, Osimhen’s goal-scoring record and explosive talent are unquestionable. The 26-year-old will now look to reignite his career in Turkey, where expectations will be high.

Only time will tell if top clubs missed out — or dodged a bullet.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
