GANDUJE RETURNS FROM LONDON, HEADS TO KANO FOR APC ENGAGEMENTS
A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has returned to Nigeria from London and is set to proceed to Kano State on Monday to participate in a series of key political engagements amid ongoing political realignments in the state.
Ganduje arrived in Abuja at about 5:30 am on Monday aboard a British Airways flight after attending the graduation ceremony of his daughter, Fatima, at King’s College, London.
Fatima, who is married to Idris Ajimobi, son of the late former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, graduated with a Master’s degree from the prestigious institution on Thursday. The ceremony was attended by close family members and associates.
Confirming Ganduje’s return to the country, his Chief of Staff, Muhammad Garba, said in a statement on Monday that the former Kano State governor would immediately resume party-related activities.
“He has returned to the country this morning and will proceed to Kano later today to take part in important political engagements,” Garba said.
According to him, Ganduje is expected to play a central role in ongoing and upcoming All Progressives Congress activities in Kano State, particularly the party’s electronic registration of members.
Garba explained that the APC e-registration exercise was initiated by Ganduje during his tenure as the party’s national chairman and is aimed at strengthening the party’s internal structures, improving its membership database, and enhancing grassroots mobilisation.
“He is scheduled to participate actively in the APC e-registration exercise and also play a key role in activities surrounding the reception of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf into the party,” he added.
The possible defection of Governor Yusuf, who was elected in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, has continued to generate intense political interest in Kano State and beyond. Party stakeholders and political observers are closely monitoring the development, which is widely seen as capable of reshaping the political landscape of the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sources within the APC say Ganduje’s presence in Kano is expected to further consolidate reconciliation efforts within the party and strengthen its position as it prepares for future electoral contests.
Kano State remains one of the most politically influential states in the country, and any major realignment is expected to have significant implications for both state and national politics.
