GABAM-LED SDP DENIES INVOLVEMENT IN SUIT AGAINST INEC TIMETABLE
The faction of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) led by Shehu Gabam has distanced itself from a reported legal action challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its election timetable.
In a statement, the party leadership clarified that it did not authorize or file any suit against INEC, describing the development as the action of individuals not acting on behalf of the official party structure.
The SDP leadership stressed that all legal or political decisions at the national level must follow established internal procedures and be approved by recognized party organs. It warned against actions capable of creating confusion or misrepresenting the party’s position.
According to the statement, the party remains committed to engaging INEC through lawful and institutional channels where necessary, rather than resorting to unauthorized litigation that could undermine party unity.
The leadership also urged members of the public and stakeholders to disregard any court action purportedly filed in the party’s name without proper authorization.
The clarification comes amid ongoing internal restructuring and political positioning within opposition parties ahead of future elections, where disputes over authority and representation have occasionally surfaced.
As the situation develops, the SDP says it remains focused on strengthening its internal cohesion and preparing for credible participation in the electoral process.
