Nollywood actress, producer, and box office powerhouse Funke Akindele has once again proven her commercial dominance, as her latest film, *Behind The Scenes*, achieved a remarkable opening weekend of over ₦200 million in Nigerian cinemas.

According to the film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, Behind The Scenes recorded the biggest opening weekend of 2025, making it the first Nollywood release this year to surpass the ₦200 million mark within its initial frame. The distributor also confirmed that the movie set five separate opening weekend records and achieved the highest weekend admissions of the year so far, highlighting its strong appeal to audiences nationwide.

The film addresses the social and emotional burdens of “black tax” and features Scarlet Gomez in the lead role, along with a star-studded ensemble cast that includes Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebowale “Mr. Macaroni,” Ibrahim Chatta, Kamo State, and reality TV stars Handi and Wanni Danbaki, among others. The combination of the impressive cast and a socially relevant storyline has been credited as key factors in driving the film’s excellent performance.

*Behind The Scenes* held advance screenings on December 10 and 11 before its official nationwide release on December 12, a strategic move that contributed significantly to its initial momentum. Announcing this milestone via Instagram, FilmOne Entertainment praised Nigerian moviegoers for their overwhelming support, referring to Akindele as the “Queen of Box Office” and thanking audiences for filling cinemas and promoting the film.

The distributor confirmed that the movie remains in cinemas across the country, with expectations that it will continue to build on its strong start in the coming weeks.

This latest success further solidifies Funke Akindele’s reputation as Nollywood’s most bankable filmmaker. Her previous release, *Everybody Loves Jenifa*, shattered records by becoming the biggest opening weekend in Nollywood history and later emerged as the highest-grossing Nigerian film of all time, earning over ₦1.8 billion locally in addition to international revenues. That film surpassed Akindele’s earlier record-holder, *A Tribe Called Judah*, which opened with ₦113 million.

With *Behind The Scenes* already setting new benchmarks in its early run, industry observers claim that Akindele continues to redefine commercial success in West African cinema by blending mass appeal, strong storytelling, and strategic distribution to consistently deliver record-breaking results.
