Petroleum product marketers in Nigeria have announced that the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, is likely to decrease in the coming days following the resumption of product loading at the Dangote Refinery.

The President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Abubakar Maigandi, confirmed that members of the association have begun loading petrol from the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery.

According to him, the move is expected to ease the ongoing nationwide fuel shortage and stabilize supply. He noted that the increased availability of petrol among marketers would naturally lead to a price reduction.

“Our members have started loading at the Dangote Refinery at ₦877 per litre, up from ₦820. With improved availability, we anticipate a slight drop in pump prices. I can’t specify the exact margin, but prices will definitely reduce,” Maigandi stated.

In the same vein, the National President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), Billy Gillis-Harry, said that adequate fuel supply from the refinery and other depots would help lower prices and bring relief to Nigerians.

“Whenever there is sufficient petrol from the Dangote Refinery or other major suppliers, the market becomes well-supplied, ensuring affordability for consumers,” he explained.

Findings revealed that several filling stations, including MRS, Emedeb, Optima, and Bova, have resumed dispensing petrol after recent shortages.

In the last two weeks, fuel prices in parts of Abuja had surged to between ₦940 and ₦965 per litre, following reported supply disruptions at the refinery.

Last week, the Vice President of Dangote Industries, Devakumar Edwin, disclosed that over 310 million litres of petrol had been scheduled for loading at the refinery.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other marketers had recently adjusted pump prices from around ₦905–₦910 per litre to between ₦940 and ₦965 per litre due to supply constraints.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
