FUEL PRICE INCREASE PUSHES UP TRICYCLE FARES ACROSS FCT

Commercial tricycle operators in the Federal Capital Territory have increased fares on several routes following a rise in petrol prices, adding to transportation costs for commuters.

Checks by the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Sunday showed that petrol was selling between N1,410 and N1,450 per litre in some locations. The development followed an N85 increase in Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s gantry price from N1,265 to N1,350 per litre.

On some routes, fares rose by N100. The Gudu to Lokogoma Junction route increased from N200 to N300, while Kabusa Junction to Apo Roundabout rose from N300 to N400.

Other increases were recorded on routes including Dutse Express to Tipper Garage Junction, Nyanya Junction to City College and Chika Bridge in Lugbe.

Operators attributed the fare increases to higher petrol prices, maintenance expenses and the rising cost of spare parts.

Commuters said the higher fares were putting additional pressure on their daily expenses, particularly for those who depend on tricycles to travel to work, schools and markets.

The latest fare adjustments come amid broader increases in transportation costs as higher fuel prices continue to affect movement across the FCT.
