Petroleum product marketers across Nigeria have hinted that the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, will drop in the coming days as loading operations resume at the Dangote Refinery.

The President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Abubakar Maigandi, confirmed to DAILY POST that members have begun loading petrol from the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery.

According to Maigandi, this development will help ease the recent nationwide fuel scarcity and bring relief to consumers.

“Our members have started loading at the Dangote Refinery at ₦877 per litre, up from ₦820. We are expecting that with the availability of the product, the price would drop a little bit. I can’t say how much a drop is expected, but there would be a reduction in price,”
Maigandi told DAILY POST.

Similarly, Billy Gillis-Harry, the National President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), said that improved supply from Dangote Refinery and other marketers would help stabilize prices.

“Whenever there are enough petrol products from Dangote Refinery or the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria, the country should be wet enough to guarantee affordability,”
Gillis-Harry stated.

Field checks by DAILY POST revealed that several filling stations, including MRS, Emedeb, Optima, and Bova, have resumed operations and are dispensing fuel.

Over the past two weeks, petrol prices spiked to between ₦940 and ₦965 per litre in parts of Abuja, following a temporary supply glitch at the Dangote Refinery.

However, Dangote Industries Vice President Devakumar Edwin announced last week that over 310 million litres of petrol have been allocated for loading, signalling a potential end to the scarcity and paving the way for a gradual reduction in pump prices nationwide.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
