Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on Friday presented a budget proposal of ₦1.854 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year to the Amaewhule-led State House of Assembly.

The budget, tagged “Budget of Consolidation and Renewal,” is aimed at completing ongoing projects, strengthening infrastructure, and improving the welfare of residents. Governor Fubara described the proposal as realistic and focused on key sectors that will drive sustainable development in the state.

Presenting the budget at the Assembly complex, Fubara said the document was prepared after wide consultations with relevant stakeholders. “This budget reflects our commitment to completing inherited projects, building new infrastructure, and improving the lives of our people. We are focused on consolidation and renewal,” the governor stated.

The Amaewhule-led Assembly, which has been at the centre of political controversy in the state, received the budget documents and promised to give it expeditious attention. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, assured the governor of the Assembly’s cooperation in passing the budget into law.

Key allocations in the 2026 budget include significant provisions for infrastructure, education, health, and security. The governor emphasised that the budget will prioritise human capital development and economic diversification.

Political observers see the budget presentation as a significant step towards normalcy in the state’s governance, despite the ongoing political tensions. The Amaewhule-led Assembly’s acceptance of the budget documents is being viewed as a positive development that could pave the way for smoother legislative processes in the coming months.

The Rivers State 2026 budget is expected to be passed before the end of the year to allow for timely implementation of projects and programmes. Stakeholders have called for transparency and accountability in the utilisation of the budgeted funds to ensure maximum benefit for the people of the state.
