Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged residents to promote peace and unity, saying both are essential to the state’s socio-economic development.

Fubara made the call in his Independence Day message to Rivers residents as Nigeria marked its 66th anniversary on Thursday.

The governor said the anniversary provided an opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s journey since independence and consider the responsibilities of citizens in building the country.

He urged Rivers residents to maintain peaceful relationships across communities and avoid actions that could threaten the state’s stability.

Fubara said unity was important for creating an environment where businesses could operate, investments could grow and residents could pursue their livelihoods without unnecessary disruptions.

He also encouraged citizens to support efforts aimed at strengthening development and improving living conditions across the state.

The governor called on political, traditional and community leaders to continue promoting peaceful coexistence and cooperation among residents.

He said the state’s development could only be sustained when citizens and institutions worked together towards common goals.

Fubara congratulated Rivers residents on the Independence anniversary and urged them to remain committed to the peace, unity and progress of the state.

He also expressed confidence that continued cooperation among stakeholders would contribute to the state’s development.
