Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, has appointed a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and a new Chief of Staff at Government House, Port Harcourt.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor named Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the new SSG and Barrister Sunny Ewule as Chief of Staff. The appointments take immediate effect.

“The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the Secretary to the State Government and Barrister Sunny Ewule as the Chief of Staff. Both appointments are with immediate effect,” the statement read.

It added that the swearing-in ceremony would take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.

The new SSG replaces Benibo Anabraba, while Sunny Ewule succeeds Edison Ehie. No official reason was given for the changes.

Ehie’s position had been the subject of speculation since President Bola Tinubu intervened in the political crisis in Rivers State. The development is widely seen as part of the aftermath of the reconciliation between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, following Tinubu’s mediation.

The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, had recently announced the withdrawal of impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.

The appointments also follow Fubara’s recent dissolution of his cabinet of eight commissioners and the dismissal of all Special Advisers, as part of ongoing political restructuring in the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
