FTSE RUSSELL REVIEW NOT SETBACK FOR NIGERIA – CIS
The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) has downplayed the significance of the recent FTSE Russell review, insisting that it does not represent a major setback for Nigeria’s capital market.
CIS President, Mr. Oluwole Oduyemi, said the review should be seen as constructive feedback that can help strengthen market fundamentals and attract more investors in the long run. “Nigeria’s market has tremendous potential. We should focus on reforms rather than short-term index movements,” he noted.
The institute called for accelerated efforts in improving liquidity, corporate governance, and investor protection to enhance Nigeria’s appeal to global investors.
Analysts agree that while the review may affect sentiment temporarily, structural improvements could lead to better performance in the future.
The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) has continued to engage with international index providers to address identified concerns.
