FRSC URGES SAFE DRIVING DURING POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS
The Federal Road Safety Corps has urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to observe traffic regulations and avoid reckless driving during campaign activities.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Gombe State, Samson Kaura, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, stressing the need for political stakeholders to prioritise the safety of all road users.
Kaura cautioned campaign drivers against excessive speed, particularly in built-up areas where pedestrians, children and animals could unexpectedly cross the road.
He also advised political parties to sensitise their drivers and ensure that only properly licensed drivers operate campaign vehicles.
According to him, campaign activities should not put other members of the public at risk, regardless of the political party involved. He urged candidates and their supporters to ensure that their campaign movements comply with existing traffic laws.
The FRSC commander also warned against overloading campaign vehicles, noting that carrying more people than a vehicle can safely accommodate could increase the number of casualties in the event of a crash.
Kaura said the FRSC had begun sensitising political stakeholders in Gombe State as part of efforts to promote responsible driving throughout the campaign period.
He further urged political parties to make road safety a priority during campaign movements and reminded all road users that compliance with traffic regulations is essential to reducing avoidable crashes and protecting lives.
