The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Zamfara State has arrested 151 motorists for various traffic offences, including overloading, bribery, and mixed loading, during a special patrol carried out in September.

Speaking in Gusau on Wednesday, the Zamfara Sector Commander, Aliyu Ma’aji, said the operation was part of the command’s effort to curb reckless driving and improve road safety across the state.

According to Ma’aji, 75 of the impounded vehicles were seized after their drivers attempted to bribe FRSC officials, while 76 others were apprehended for other traffic violations such as overloading and excessive speeding.

“Those caught offering bribes will face prosecution for both corruption and traffic offences,” he said.

The commander disclosed that plans were underway to establish a mobile court to ensure speedy prosecution of offenders and strengthen deterrence measures.

Ma’aji also noted that Zamfara serves as a major transit route connecting Sokoto, Kebbi, and the Republic of Niger, which makes traffic enforcement particularly challenging.

“Many of the overloaded vehicles passing through Zamfara do not originate from here, making it difficult to trace their sources,” he explained.

He warned motorists to adhere strictly to road regulations or face the full wrath of the law, emphasizing the Corps’ commitment to maintaining vigilance and discipline on the highways.

The commander further appealed to road users, transport unions, and stakeholders to cooperate with the FRSC in reducing road crashes and promoting safer driving culture across Zamfara State.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
