From Steven Gerrard to Rio Ngumoha, Liverpool’s history features teenagers who caught the eye at Anfield. Some became club legends, while others built successful careers elsewhere.
Here are the 10 players featured in Planet Football’s ranking of Liverpool’s best teenage talents, presented from first to tenth:
- Steven Gerrard: An inspirational captain whose influence defined an era.
- Michael Owen: A teenage scoring sensation who later won the Ballon d’Or.
- Robbie Fowler: A natural finisher who quickly became a supporters’ favourite.
- Trent Alexander-Arnold: A creative defender celebrated for his passing.
- Raheem Sterling: An exciting young attacker with speed and confidence.
- Ian Callaghan: A teenage debutant who became Liverpool’s appearance record holder.
- Jamie Carragher: A committed defender who spent his senior career at Anfield.
- Steve McManaman: A skilful attacker who delighted fans with his dribbling.
- Tommy Smith: A tough defender associated with Liverpool’s winning traditions.
- Rio Ngumoha: A promising winger whose early breakthrough has attracted attention.
Ngumoha’s story is still developing. He joined Liverpool’s academy from Chelsea in September 2024 and became Liverpool’s youngest goalscorer with his dramatic winner against Newcastle in August 2025. Those moments offer supporters plenty to be excited about, although matching the careers of established legends will take time. Liverpool FC
The list also reflects different routes into senior football. Some players developed at Liverpool from childhood; others arrived after spending time at another club’s academy. What connects them is the opportunity to show their ability at Anfield while still young.
