FOURSQUARE GO CALLS FOR STRONGER VALUES IN NATION BUILDING

The General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Rev. Sam Aboyeji, has said Nigeria cannot achieve lasting development by focusing on infrastructure alone.

Aboyeji made the remarks while announcing the church’s 13th Annual Public Lecture, scheduled to hold in Lagos under the theme, “Building to Last, Faith, Infrastructure, and the Future of the Nation.”

He said roads, bridges, airports, schools and hospitals were important to national development but could not by themselves guarantee sustainable progress.

According to him, Nigeria also needs competent leadership, strong institutions, integrity and shared values to ensure that investments in infrastructure translate into meaningful improvements in the lives of citizens.

Aboyeji said the country had significant human and natural resources, as well as a large youthful population and entrepreneurial spirit. He, however, noted that the quality of its institutions and leadership would determine whether these resources could be converted into lasting prosperity.

He added that the annual lecture provides a platform for professionals, policymakers, academics, business leaders and other stakeholders to discuss issues affecting Nigeria’s development.

The cleric also urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to reject violence, corruption, intolerance and ethnic or religious hatred.

He called for greater commitment to values that can strengthen national unity and support Nigeria’s long-term development.
