FOUR UNIONS DECLARE INDEFINITE STRIKE AT LAGOS UNIVERSITIES
Four university staff unions have declared an immediate and indefinite strike across Lagos State-owned universities over the non-implementation of agreements on salaries, allowances and welfare.
The Joint Action Committee comprising the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions and National Association of Academic Technologists announced the strike in Lagos.
The affected institutions are Lagos State University, Lagos State University College of Medicine, Lagos State University of Science and Technology and Lagos State University of Education.
The unions said the action followed the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to the Lagos State Government to approve and implement agreements reached between the Federal Government and university staff unions.
JAC Chairman and ASUU-LASU Chairman, Prof. Ibrahim Bakare, said the unions had exhausted avenues for dialogue with the state government.
ASUU had earlier declared an indefinite strike across LASU, LASUED and LASUSTECH after the expiration of a separate 14-day ultimatum.
The unions are demanding the implementation of agreements covering staff salaries, allowances and welfare provisions.
