FOUR KILLED AS CLASH ERUPTS IN LAGOS COMMUNITY

Four people have been confirmed dead following a clash that escalated into communal unrest in the Ikola area of Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred around Power Line Bus Stop, where a disagreement reportedly triggered violence involving members of the community.

A resident said the crisis began after an argument between two individuals escalated, leading to unrest that prompted security operatives from the Meiran Division to call for reinforcement.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that four adult males lost their lives during the incident, while several others sustained injuries.

LASEMA said it received a distress call concerning a fire outbreak in the area at about 1:52pm and immediately deployed emergency responders to the scene.

Several makeshift structures were reportedly damaged by fire during the unrest before the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service brought the situation under control.

Emergency medical teams, including the Agbado Oke-Odo Ambulance Service and the Nigerian Red Cross Society, provided assistance to those injured.

A joint security operation involving the police, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps was activated to restore order in the area.

The Chairman of the Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area also visited the scene to support coordination with community leaders.

LASEMA said normalcy had been restored in Ikola and neighbouring communities, although security personnel remained deployed to prevent further disturbances.

Authorities have commenced an investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the incident, while residents have been urged to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of escalating tension.
