Security operatives have arrested four suspects following an attack on the convoy of the Sokoto State Deputy Governor, who was returning from a condolence visit in Shagari Local Government Area.

The deputy governor had visited Shagari town to sympathize with victims recently displaced by bandits’ attacks when the incident occurred. According to eyewitnesses, some angry residents blocked the road and attacked vehicles in the entourage around 1 p.m. on Thursday.

Sources revealed that several vehicles were vandalized during the protest. Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA were quickly deployed to the area, cleared the obstruction, and restored calm.

“Four suspects were arrested at the scene and transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation,” a source confirmed.

Authorities said normalcy has since returned to Shagari town, while additional security personnel have been stationed in the area to prevent further unrest.

The attack highlights the growing tension in communities affected by banditry, where frustrations over repeated violence and displacement often spill over into confrontations with government officials.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
