FORMER WEST HAM GOALKEEPER LUDEK MIKLOSKO DIES AT 64
Former West Ham United goalkeeper Ludek Miklosko has died at the age of 64, the English Premier League club has confirmed. The Czech goalkeeper, who became a popular figure among the club’s supporters during his playing career, passed away after a battle with cancer.
Miklosko joined West Ham in 1990 from Banik Ostrava and went on to make 374 appearances for the London club across competitions. He quickly established himself as a dependable goalkeeper and played an important role during his time at Upton Park, earning a reputation for his strong performances between the posts.
The former goalkeeper was also part of the West Ham side that won the Second Division title in the 1990-91 season, helping the club secure promotion to the top flight. He remained with the Hammers until 1998, when he returned to his native Czech Republic to join Sparta Prague before eventually ending his playing career.
Miklosko also represented Czechoslovakia and later the Czech Republic at international level, earning nine caps for the former and two for the latter. His career included appearances at major international competitions, while his performances for West Ham made him one of the most recognisable Czech players in English football during the 1990s.
West Ham expressed its sadness over the death of the former goalkeeper and paid tribute to his contribution to the club. Supporters and former teammates have also remembered Miklosko for his commitment and performances during his eight-year spell with the Hammers, with tributes expected to continue as the club mourns the loss of one of its former fan favourites.
