A former Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Bosun Arebuwa, has defected to the All Progressives Congress alongside his supporters.

Arebuwa, who contested the PDP governorship ticket ahead of the 2024 Ondo State election, announced his move to the APC at a ceremony in Akure on Friday. He said his supporters came from political units and wards across the state.

The former aspirant said his decision was influenced by his assessment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He also pledged to use his political experience and grassroots network to support the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Arebuwa said the group joining the APC included supporters from more than 3,000 political units and 203 wards across Ondo State’s 18 local government areas.

Receiving the defectors on behalf of the APC leadership in Ondo State, Chief Olusola Oke welcomed Arebuwa and his supporters into the party.

Oke urged the new members to return to their respective wards and local government areas and contribute to the party’s activities.

Arebuwa’s defection comes as political activities increase ahead of the 2027 elections, with politicians and supporters moving between political parties and groups.

The former PDP aspirant was among those who sought the party’s governorship ticket before the 2024 election, which was eventually won by Agboola Ajayi at the party’s primary.
