FOREST BREAK TRANSFER RECORD WITH £50M CAPTURE OF CHELSEA STRIKER DELAP

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Chelsea striker Liam Delap in a club-record transfer that could reach £50m, giving the forward a fresh start after a difficult spell at Stamford Bridge.

The 23-year-old has signed a five-year contract with Forest. The deal is understood to involve an initial £45m payment, with a further £5m available in performance-related add-ons. The transfer makes Delap the most expensive player in Forest's history.

Delap joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town in 2025 for around £30m after impressing during Ipswich's Premier League campaign. He scored 12 league goals in 37 appearances for Ipswich despite the club's eventual relegation.

His first season at Chelsea, however, proved considerably more difficult. The striker struggled with injuries, competition for places and consistency, managing only three goals in 47 appearances across competitions. His limited impact contributed to Chelsea's decision to allow him to leave after just one season.

Forest moved quickly to secure his services after interest from several Premier League clubs, including Everton. The club sees Delap as an important addition to its attacking options and believes he can rediscover the form that made him one of England's promising young forwards.

Delap is expected to work under manager Oliver Glasner, who has backed the forward's development. The striker said he was excited by the move and attracted by Forest's history, supporters and the manager's plans for him.

The transfer represents another major investment by Forest as they strengthen their squad. It also surpasses the £37.5m the club paid for Omari Hutchinson, making Delap the latest player to set a new transfer benchmark at the City Ground.

For Chelsea, the sale allows the club to recover a significant fee on a player who arrived only last year. The Blues had initially paid about £30m for Delap, meaning the latest deal could provide a substantial profit before any additional financial considerations.

Delap's move also gives him an opportunity to rebuild his reputation in the Premier League. Having already demonstrated his goalscoring ability at Ipswich, Forest will hope the England youth international can reproduce that form and become a key figure in their attack.
