Former Dutch football star Edgar Davids has revealed how he was betrayed and robbed of thousands of pounds by his ex-girlfriend, Nabila Habiby.

A court in North London heard that Habiby, 38, stole 37 pieces of artwork worth £188,000 from Davids between 2014 and 2016. At the time, Davids, now 52, believed she was helping him safeguard his belongings while he moved into a new flat in Central London.

Instead, Habiby pawned the valuable art pieces to secure £31,500 in loans, leading Davids to believe the works were still safely stored.

The shocking betrayal only came to light years later when a Hong Kong-based collector messaged Davids on Instagram about one of his personalized paintings, alerting him that it had been sold at auction. Davids immediately contacted the Metropolitan Police, sparking an investigation.

Appearing at Wood Green Crown Court, Habiby pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud, with three further charges of theft left on file.

Judge Alexander Jacobs, while granting her bail, warned that she still faces the real possibility of jail time when sentencing takes place in November.

“There was an abuse of position, power, trust, and responsibility,” the judge said. “I will do my absolute best to avoid it if I can, but sometimes it is unavoidable.”

David, who now lives in Dubai, was ready to testify via video link, but his evidence was no longer required after Habiby’s guilty plea.

The football legend, known for his successful career with Juventus, Barcelona, and Ajax, has yet to publicly comment on the emotional toll of the betrayal.
