Flutterwave, a top African payment technology firm, has once again earned a place on the TIME100 Most Influential Companies list for 2025 — its second appearance on the prestigious global ranking.

The Nigerian-born fintech joins global heavyweights like Amazon, Netflix, Berkshire Hathaway, Universal Music Group, OpenAI, and others under the “TITANS” category, as TIME celebrates companies making a remarkable global impact.

To curate the fifth edition of this annual list, TIME gathered nominations from across industries, consulting its network of reporters, contributors, and external experts. Final selections were based on influence, innovation, ambition, and success — resulting in a diverse list of 105 companies shaping the future.

Founded in 2016, Flutterwave first appeared on the TIME100 list in 2021, following its efforts to help thousands of businesses go digital during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its return in 2025 reaffirms its position as a fintech leader, driving digital payments across Africa and beyond.

Dedicated to simplifying payments and boosting economic growth, Flutterwave supports individuals and enterprises across sectors like e-commerce, travel, payroll, hospitality, and cross-border remittance.

Commenting on the recognition, Flutterwave Founder and CEO, Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola, said:
“It’s an incredible honor to be recognized by TIME once more. This reflects the hard work of our team. We’ve grown from building core infrastructure to enabling global solutions. Flutterwave isn’t just processing payments — we’re helping shape the financial future of Africa and integrating the continent into the global economy.”

In the past year, Flutterwave has expanded its reach to over 34 African countries. Nearly half of its customer base made payments in new markets in 2024. The company also launched services in Bahrain, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, supporting the expansion of a major global ride-hailing company.

Its remittance platform, SendApp by Flutterwave, has seen rapid adoption across the US, UK, and EU. It offers more efficient, low-cost ways for Africans abroad to send money home. SendApp now holds 34 licenses in the US, following the approval of 20 more within the year, giving the company near-complete coverage in the country.

Flutterwave also enhanced its leadership team and rolled out a growth strategy focused on profitability, market penetration, and long-term expansion.

This TIME recognition comes on the heels of other notable achievements. Flutterwave recently topped Fast Company’s 2024 Most Innovative Companies list for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and was featured for the second year in a row on the FXC Intelligence Top 100 Cross-Border Payment Companies list.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
