Flamengo head coach Filipe Luís has reacted emotionally to Neymar’s match-winning goal for Santos in their Brazilian Serie A clash early Thursday morning.

The only goal of the match came in the second half, with Neymar’s strike sealing a hard-fought victory for Santos against one of Brazil’s biggest clubs.

After the match, Luís — who once shared the national team dressing room with Neymar — praised the superstar’s performance but admitted it was painful to be on the receiving end.

“Everyone knows his quality, how important he is to Brazilian football,” Luís said. “It’s a shame he had to be the one to decide the match.”

The Flamengo boss noted that Neymar looked sharp and fit, both physically and mentally, something he hadn’t seen from him in recent outings.

“We saw him fighting for the ball, repositioning, defending, and even pressing our defenders. He was at full Serie A level today,” Luís added.

Despite the disappointment, Luís had kind words for his former teammate:
“He is a great friend and an extraordinary player. It’s a privilege to have him back in Brazilian football. He’s always capable of creating danger or setting up a goal.”

Neymar’s return to Santos has been one of the most talked-about stories in Brazilian football — and on nights like this, it’s clear why.

One goal. One moment. One Neymar.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
