Nigeria’s fixed internet subscriptions increased by 1,375 per cent in five years, rising from 13,841 in August 2021 to 204,082 in July 2026, according to data from the Nigerian Communications Commission.

The figures represent more than a 14-fold increase in fixed internet connections, which are linked to specific locations such as homes, offices and business premises.

The growth has been driven by increasing demand for dedicated broadband services, including fibre-based connections and other fixed internet technologies.

Fixed subscriptions also recorded a sharp increase over the past year. The number rose from 29,489 in July 2025 to 204,082 in July 2026, representing an increase of about 592 per cent.

Despite the rapid growth, fixed connections remain a small portion of Nigeria’s overall internet market. Total internet subscriptions stood at 157.71 million in July 2026, meaning fixed connections accounted for about 0.13 per cent of the total.

Overall internet subscriptions increased from 139.74 million in August 2021 to 157.71 million in July 2026, a rise of approximately 17.96 million subscriptions.

The broader market experienced fluctuations during the period, reaching 164.56 million subscriptions in April 2024 before declining later that year. It subsequently recovered to 148.17 million in December 2025 and 157.71 million by July 2026.

The NCC data indicates that while mobile connectivity remains dominant, demand for fixed broadband is expanding as households, businesses and offices seek more stable and higher-capacity internet connections.
