FIVE ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY IMPERSONATING POLICE OFFICERS IN KANO
The Kano State Police Command has apprehended five men accused of posing as police officers and extorting money from unsuspecting residents across Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna states.
The suspects — identified as Aliyu Abbas (35), Sani Iliyasu (47), Ashiru Sule (41), Abubakar Yahaya (45), and Adamu Kalilu (45) — were arrested on October 16, 2025, around 1:00 p.m. by operatives of the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) following credible intelligence.
Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to him, the suspects were caught impersonating police officers and found with several incriminating items.
“During the operation, the team recovered a fake police warrant card, a pair of handcuffs, CFA2,500, mutilated naira notes in various denominations, and a blue Peugeot 406 vehicle with registration number NSR-188-BD,” the statement read.
Kiyawa further explained that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to using the fake police identification to deceive and intimidate citizens in the three states while carrying out extortion and other illegal activities.
He added that an investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged in court upon completion of the process.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
“The Kano State Police Command will not condone any form of criminal impersonation or unlawful act. We urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons to the nearest police station,” the CP stated.
The Command also released emergency contact numbers — 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926 — for the public to report suspicious activities.
