FIRM TRAINS WOMEN, PWDS ON ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

The Gbolekero Women Empowerment and Development Organisation has trained 60 women and persons with disabilities in sustainable agriculture and environmental protection in Gelegele Community, Edo State.

The training, supported by the Global Greengrants Fund, was designed to give participants practical knowledge on environmentally friendly farming methods and ways to address environmental challenges affecting their livelihoods.

The Executive Director of GWEDO, Cynthia Bright, encouraged participants to adopt farming practices that protect the soil while supporting food production and sustainable livelihoods.

Sessions during the programme covered sustainable agriculture, the use of bio-fertilisers, climate change, environmental protection and waste management on farms.

Participants were also educated on how changing rainfall patterns, flooding and extreme weather conditions are affecting agriculture and community livelihoods.

The training encouraged farmers to adopt measures such as crop rotation, tree planting, proper waste disposal and the use of organic inputs.

Bright stressed the importance of involving women and persons with disabilities in environmental programmes and community decision-making.

She urged participants to implement the action plans developed during the training and seek further opportunities to strengthen their practical skills.

GWEDO said the programme was part of efforts to promote community-led environmental protection, sustainable agriculture and more resilient livelihoods in Gelegele.
