A fire outbreak on Wednesday damaged part of a Ministry of Lands facility located inside the Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

The blaze broke out in a power house that was being used as a storage space. According to the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, firefighters were swiftly deployed to the scene after receiving an emergency call.

Upon arrival, the team quickly cut off the electricity supply to the building and worked to contain the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to other sections of the facility.

“The fire was caused by electrical sparks that ignited nearby combustible materials,” Akinwande explained. “Our prompt action ensured that the fire was completely extinguished and properties worth billions of naira were saved.”

No casualties were reported in the incident. The quick intervention of the fire service ensured that the damage was limited to the store, sparing other parts of the building and critical documents from destruction.

Authorities have urged public institutions and businesses to ensure proper electrical safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
