FIRE GUTS RESIDENTIAL BUILDING IN OYO, DESTROYS PROPERTIES WORTH MILLIONS
A devastating fire outbreak has razed a residential building in the Aladota, Oke-Olola area of Oyo, Oyo State, destroying properties worth millions of naira.
The incident, which occurred around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, sent residents into panic as thick smoke engulfed the neighbourhood.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said fire officers were immediately mobilised to the scene upon receiving the distress call.
“The fire incident was as a result of a spark from electricity which ignited combustible materials and set the room ablaze. No casualty was recorded. The agency was able to save properties worth millions of naira,” Akinwande explained.
He commended the swift response of the fire service team, which helped to prevent the flames from spreading to adjoining buildings.
While investigations continue, Akinwande urged residents to always ensure proper handling of electrical appliances and avoid overloading power sources to prevent future fire disasters.
