Another fire outbreak has hit Oyo State, this time destroying a radio station located within Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, on Monday morning.

The blaze, which broke out around 11:55 am, was traced to an electrical surge from an air-conditioning unit in the studio.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, said officers led by PFS 11 Makinde swiftly responded to the emergency call and were able to contain the fire before it spread beyond the studio.

“On arrival, our officers met the studio already engulfed by fire and smoke. They acted immediately and curtailed the flames, preventing further damage. No lives were lost, and properties worth millions of naira were saved,” Akinwande explained.

While no casualties were recorded, the fire still destroyed equipment and items worth millions of naira.

Akinwande used the opportunity to caution the public on fire safety. He stressed the importance of having functional fire extinguishers in buildings and ensuring people know how to use them to stop small fire outbreaks before they escalate.

This latest incident comes just days after a similar fire outbreak at Fresh 105.9 FM, Ibadan, raising fresh concerns about the vulnerability of media houses and public facilities in Oyo State to fire hazards.

Authorities have urged institutions and business owners to regularly check electrical installations and adopt preventive measures to avoid further tragedies.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
