FIRE DESTROYS TWO FLATS IN GOMBE, PROPERTY WORTH N80M LOST

Property worth about N80m has been destroyed after fire gutted two residential flats at Yalenguruza Quarters, opposite MacConnels Hotel, in Gombe State.

The Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Command, disclosed the incident in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, ASF MB Mu’azu, on Friday.

According to the command, a distress call was received at about 3:03pm, after which firefighters were mobilised from the ATM Fire Station.

The fire service said its crew arrived at the scene around 3:15pm and found that the blaze had affected two separate residential flats containing several rooms.

“the crew immediately commenced firefighting operations and eventually extinguished the blaze using a medium jet supplied from the water tender,” the statement said.

The prompt intervention reportedly prevented the fire from spreading and helped save property estimated at N150m.

No casualty was recorded in the incident.

The firefighting operation was led by ASF I. Gambo Mohammed, with ASFII Mu’azu Tagwai serving as the driver, alongside other firefighters.

Personnel from the Gombe State Fire Service and officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Gona Division, also supported the emergency response.

After extinguishing the fire, firefighters inspected the premises and confirmed that there was no remaining fire or immediate threat.

The fire service said its personnel and equipment returned to the station at about 5:38pm.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and observe basic fire safety measures, particularly in residential buildings.

It also advised members of the public to promptly report fire emergencies to the nearest fire station to enable a swift response and minimise loss of lives and property.
