Millions Lost as Fire Guts Container Shop in Ibadan

A devastating fire broke out on Tuesday in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, destroying goods worth millions of naira at a container shop located near the Mobil Filling Station along Ring Road.

Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.

According to reports, the fire started in the early hours of the day and quickly engulfed the container shop, which was stocked with valuable goods, including lubricant oil.

Hon. Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday morning. He praised the swift response of firefighters who prevented the flames from spreading to nearby shops and the Mobil Filling Station.

“The firemen quickly got to work and curtailed the fire from spreading to the surrounding filling station and other shops within the vicinity,” Akinwande stated.

“No casualty was recorded. The fire only affected the container shop and the lubricant oil stored inside it, while the Mobil Filling Station, nearby shops, and properties worth millions of naira were saved from the devastating fire by the fire service.”

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

This incident highlights the importance of fire safety measures, especially in areas with high volumes of flammable materials. Residents and shop owners are urged to remain cautious and report any fire emergencies promptly.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
