FG VOWS ACTION AGAINST CôTE D’IVOIRE OVER NIGERIAN’S DEATH IN PRISON
The Federal Government has vowed to take strong diplomatic action against Côte d’Ivoire following the death of a Nigerian in a prison facility in the West African country.
The deceased, identified as a businessman, reportedly died under controversial circumstances while in detention. The Nigerian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has demanded a full investigation and accountability from Ivorian authorities. “We will not tolerate the mistreatment of our citizens abroad,” a senior official stated.
The incident has sparked outrage among Nigerians, with calls for the immediate repatriation of the body and compensation for the family. The government has engaged relevant international bodies to ensure justice is served.
This development comes amid ongoing concerns over the welfare of Nigerians in the diaspora and highlights the need for stronger consular protection mechanisms.
The Ministry has advised citizens travelling to Côte d’Ivoire to exercise caution and comply with local laws while promising to monitor the situation closely.
