FG UNVEILS 23 SOLAR MINI-GRIDS POWERING 50,000 NIGERIANS

The Federal Government has officially unveiled 23 solar-powered mini-grids that are now providing electricity to over 50,000 Nigerians in previously underserved communities across several states.

The projects, executed under the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), were commissioned by the Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, who described them as critical steps towards achieving universal energy access. “These mini-grids demonstrate our commitment to clean, reliable, and sustainable power for rural and semi-urban areas,” Adelabu said.

The mini-grids are expected to boost economic activities, improve healthcare delivery, and enhance educational outcomes in beneficiary communities. Local residents have expressed gratitude for the improved quality of life brought by consistent electricity supply.

The government plans to scale up similar projects in the coming years as part of its broader renewable energy strategy. The initiative also aligns with Nigeria’s climate commitments and efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Stakeholders have called for proper maintenance and community ownership models to ensure the long-term sustainability of the mini-grids.
