FG TO PROVIDE SOLAR POWER FOR HOSPITALS, UNIVERSITIES — ECN BOSS
The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing power challenges in public hospitals and universities through expanded investment in renewable energy solutions.
The ECN Director-General, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, made this known in a statement on Thursday to commemorate his two years in office.
He explained that the Renewed Hope Solarisation Project under President Bola Tinubu’s administration has fast-tracked the installation of two-megawatt solar hybrid systems in several public institutions nationwide.
According to Abdullahi, the first phase of the project has been completed at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano, General Hospital Bangi in Niger State, the Enugu Research Centre, and the University of Abuja. He added that communities in Benue, Kebbi, Kaduna, Ekiti, and Osun States have also benefited, with more institutions slated for the next phase.
He further noted that the Commission has spearheaded several renewable energy initiatives and sustainable power programmes, signing multiple memoranda of understanding for solar mini-grid projects currently at different stages of implementation.
“The newly approved National Energy Policy and National Energy Master Plan were launched by the Federal Government to ensure better coordination of projects and attract investment into the renewable energy sector,” Abdullahi stated.
He also revealed that the ECN has established a pilot Green Hydrogen Plant to promote the local adoption of green energy technologies — a step aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s clean energy transition and boosting institutional capacity for sustainable growth.
