FG TO LAUNCH NEW CAPITAL MARKET PLAN AND SAVINGS SCHEME
The Federal Government is set to unveil a new 10-year strategy for Nigeria’s capital market alongside a National Savings Scheme aimed at increasing domestic savings and investment.
The initiatives will be launched at the 2026 National Capital Market Conference scheduled for October 19 in Abuja. The conference will bring together stakeholders from the public and private sectors to discuss measures for deepening the capital market and supporting economic development.
The Securities and Exchange Commission said the Nigerian Capital Market Master Plan 2.0 would provide a framework for the development of the market over the next decade.
SEC Director-General, Emomotimi Agama, said the plan would guide efforts to strengthen the market, while the endorsement of Vice-President Kashim Shettima would support its implementation.
The National Savings Scheme is designed to encourage Nigerians across different income groups to save and invest for the future. According to the SEC, tax incentives will be introduced to encourage participation.
Agama said the scheme aligns with the Federal Government’s fiscal policy direction, including tax relief measures for citizens earning below a specified income threshold.
Other activities at the conference will include the presentation of reports from Capital Market Committee technical working groups and the inauguration of committees responsible for implementing the new master plan.
The conference is expected to focus on domestic resource mobilisation, increased investor participation and the contribution of the capital market to Nigeria’s economic growth.
