The Federal Government spent ₦6.47 trillion on strategic infrastructure development between June 2023 and December 2025, with major highway projects accounting for more than half of the expenditure, according to the latest government figures.

The spending forms part of the government’s broader efforts to improve Nigeria’s infrastructure and strengthen economic activity through investments in transportation and other strategic sectors.

Highway projects received significant attention, reflecting the government’s focus on improving road connectivity, reducing travel time, and supporting the movement of people and goods across the country.

The investment is also linked to the broader fiscal space created by economic reforms, including the removal of petrol subsidies. The government has said these reforms have released additional resources for infrastructure and other public priorities.

Economic experts have stressed that the impact of the spending will depend largely on effective project execution, transparency, and proper maintenance.

They said completing major road projects on schedule could improve logistics, reduce transportation costs, support businesses, and strengthen economic integration.

The Federal Government has continued to position infrastructure investment as a key part of its strategy to stimulate growth and improve public services.
