FG REVIVES DIGITAL POSTCODE AFTER 20 YEARS, BEGINS NIN INTEGRATION
The Federal Government has revived the long-dormant national digital postcode project after over 20 years, integrating it with the National Identity Number (NIN) to enhance service delivery and governance.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, announced the development, stating that the system will assign unique digital addresses to every location, significantly improving logistics, emergency response, and data accuracy. “This integration with NIN will create a more efficient and connected Nigeria,” Tijani said.
The project, which had been stalled due to funding and technical challenges, is now being fast-tracked with modern technology and public-private partnerships. A phased rollout will begin in major cities before nationwide coverage.
Stakeholders have welcomed the revival, noting its potential to transform governance, e-commerce, and urban planning.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader digital economy strategy aimed at modernising public services and improving ease of doing business.
