The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening climate resilience through the Agro-Climate Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project initiative.

Joseph Utsev, Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, said the project remains vital in tackling flooding, land degradation, drought, and water scarcity across Nigeria.

He spoke during the Mid-Term Review Steering Technical Committee meeting in Kaduna, where stakeholders assessed progress and discussed ways to improve implementation.

According to Utsev, the ministry will continue supporting watershed management, flood forecasting, early warning systems, and sustainable water infrastructure through national water agencies.

He stressed that stronger collaboration between sectors and institutions is necessary to ensure long-term results.

Also speaking, Balarabe Lawal said states should enact laws that will preserve the gains of the project beyond its official lifespan.

The climate initiative is supported by the World Bank and focuses especially on Nigeria’s semi-arid northern regions, where desertification and irregular rainfall continue to threaten farming and livelihoods.

Officials say continued investment in resilience projects is key to protecting water resources, boosting food production, and helping vulnerable communities adapt to climate shocks.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
