FG RELEASES APPROVED TEXTBOOKS FOR 2026–2028

The Federal Ministry of Education has released the final list of ranked and approved textbooks for use in Nigerian schools for the 2026–2028 academic period.

The ministry said the list covers Primary 1, Primary 4, Junior Secondary School 1 and Senior Secondary School 1, following the completion of the first phase of the National Textbook Ranking exercise.

Each approved textbook has been assigned a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code, alongside details including the title, author, publisher and year of publication. The system is designed to improve identification, monitoring and accountability in the selection and use of instructional materials.

The Federal Government had earlier announced that only textbooks evaluated, ranked and approved under the new system would be authorised for use in public schools from September 2026. Approved titles are expected to remain valid for at least three years.

The ministry said schools and other stakeholders should use only textbooks on the approved list for the affected classes.

The second phase of the ranking exercise will cover Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2 and SS 2, with the same tracking system expected to apply to the approved titles.
