FG PROMOTES SCIENCE-DRIVEN FARMING TO STRENGTHEN FOOD SECURITY
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting science-led agriculture as part of efforts to improve food security, increase farm productivity, and build a more resilient agricultural sector.
Government officials said adopting scientific research, modern farming techniques, and innovation will be critical to addressing challenges such as low crop yields, climate change, and post-harvest losses. They noted that greater investment in agricultural research and technology can help farmers produce more efficiently while ensuring sustainable food production.
The government also emphasized the importance of stronger collaboration among research institutions, universities, private sector players, and farmers to accelerate the adoption of improved seeds, climate-smart farming practices, and digital agricultural solutions.
Agriculture experts welcomed the initiative, describing science and innovation as key drivers of increased productivity and long-term food security. They added that expanding access to research findings, extension services, and modern farming technologies would help boost rural livelihoods and strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.
The Federal Government said it will continue to support policies and partnerships that encourage innovation and position agriculture as a major contributor to economic growth and national food security.
