FG PARTNERS WITH CANADIAN NURSES TO REVOLUTIONIZE NURSING IN NIGERIA
Abuja – In a groundbreaking move to enhance healthcare delivery, the Federal Government has launched the Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) initiative, a bold step aimed at transforming nursing practices across Nigeria.
This initiative, in collaboration with the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO), Canada, will train, mentor, and equip nurses with cutting-edge, evidence-based, and culturally sensitive caregiving techniques to improve patient outcomes nationwide.
As part of the pilot phase, hospitals across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, including a district hospital in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have been selected to implement the program. The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare will oversee the initiative, ensuring it strengthens nursing services in Federal Tertiary Health Institutions (FTHIs) while aligning with global healthcare standards.
Speaking at the official launch in Abuja, Daju Kachollom, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, described the program as a game-changer for the nursing profession in Nigeria.
“This initiative is a structured roadmap to elevate nursing excellence by integrating global best practices into our healthcare system,” she said. “With this, Nigerian nurses will be better equipped to provide top-tier care that meets international standards.”
Also present at the event, Dr. Olubunmi Aribana emphasized the significance of this partnership, noting that Nigeria is the first African nation to collaborate with RNAO and achieve BPSO designation.
“This is a remarkable milestone,” Aribana stated. “It highlights our commitment to equipping nurses with the skills, knowledge, and expertise needed to deliver world-class healthcare to Nigerians.”
Kachollom applauded RNAO for extending its prestigious nursing program to Nigeria, stressing that the initiative will not only empower healthcare professionals but also enhance the quality of patient care.
“This is a win for Nigerians and the entire African continent,” she added. “I urge all healthcare professionals to embrace this initiative and remain committed to delivering the highest standards of care.”
