FG OPENS DOOR FOR NIGERIANS, BUSINESSES TO SHAPE 2027 FINANCE BILL
The Federal Government has invited Nigerians and other stakeholders to submit proposals that could influence the development of the Finance Bill 2027.
The Federal Ministry of Finance made the call as part of an early consultation process aimed at gathering practical recommendations before the proposed legislation is drafted.
The invitation is open to members of the public, businesses, investors, professional bodies, civil society organisations, academic institutions, public institutions and other interested stakeholders.
The ministry said submissions should focus on practical and evidence-based legislative or regulatory reforms capable of strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal framework and improving the country’s business and investment environment.
According to the ministry, the consultation is intended to contribute to sustainable economic growth while ensuring that future fiscal laws respond more effectively to the country’s economic realities.
Stakeholders have been encouraged to make recommendations in areas including taxation and revenue administration, fiscal policy and management, fiscal responsibility, transparency and accountability, as well as financial and economic regulation.
On taxation, the government is seeking proposals relating to tax policy, revenue mobilisation, compliance, taxpayer services, tax incentives, customs and excise duties and coordination among revenue-generating agencies.
The consultation will also cover issues surrounding government revenue and expenditure management, budgeting, public financial management, fiscal sustainability, public debt and relations between the federal, state and local governments.
The ministry said stakeholders could also identify gaps, inconsistencies or burdens in existing laws and recommend amendments that could produce measurable improvements in Nigeria’s economic system.
For businesses and investors, the consultation provides an opportunity to highlight challenges arising from existing fiscal policies and propose reforms that could make the operating environment more predictable and competitive.
The government is also seeking ideas that could strengthen fiscal transparency and accountability, particularly in the management of public resources.
Interested stakeholders are expected to submit their proposals to the Federal Ministry of Finance through the designated channels. The deadline for submissions is Friday, September 11, 2026.
The Federal Government said the broader objective is to develop fiscal laws that support economic productivity, encourage investment and improve Nigeria’s competitiveness.
The outcome of the consultation is expected to guide the preparation of the Finance Bill 2027 and provide policymakers with recommendations from different sectors of the economy.
The initiative therefore gives Nigerians, businesses and professional groups an opportunity to contribute directly to discussions around the country’s future tax, revenue and fiscal policies.
