The Federal Government has said stronger cooperation with China could help Nigeria improve electricity supply, develop renewable energy and increase local production of power equipment.

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, stated this in Abuja during a reception marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Tegbe said increased Chinese investment in Nigeria’s power sector could support efforts to provide more reliable electricity to consumers.

He also stressed the importance of using the partnership to build technical capacity among Nigerians and strengthen local businesses involved in the power sector.

According to the minister, cooperation should extend beyond investment to include skills development, renewable energy and the manufacturing of electricity equipment within Nigeria.

The government has been seeking additional investment and partnerships to address challenges affecting electricity generation, transmission and distribution.

Tegbe said closer cooperation with China could create opportunities for technology transfer and local industrial development while supporting improvements in electricity supply.

The Federal Government has continued to pursue reforms and investments aimed at strengthening the power sector and addressing infrastructure challenges.

The minister said the government remained interested in partnerships that could produce practical benefits for Nigerians and contribute to the development of the country’s energy infrastructure.
