The Federal Government has welcomed the suspension of the ongoing strike by teachers in Oyo State, describing it as a positive development that will allow students to resume academic activities without further disruption.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, commended the efforts of all parties involved in resolving the dispute, including state authorities, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and other stakeholders. “We are pleased that the strike has been suspended. Education is too important to be interrupted for long,” he said.

The Oyo State chapter of the NUT had embarked on the industrial action to press for the payment of outstanding salaries and improved working conditions. The suspension follows intensive negotiations and assurances from the state government.

Parents and students in Oyo have expressed relief, hoping for a permanent resolution to avoid future disruptions. The Federal Government has pledged continued support to state governments in addressing education sector challenges.

The development is seen as a step towards stabilising the education system in the state and ensuring that learners do not suffer prolonged academic setbacks.
