FG EXPLAINS WHY COMFORT EMMANSON WAS REMANDED WHILE KWAM 1 WAS NOT
The Federal Government has clarified why Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger accused of assaulting cabin crew, was remanded in court, while Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as Kwam 1, faced no such legal action after allegedly disrupting a ValueJet flight in Abuja.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday, Mike Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), said the two situations were not the same.
“In Kwam 1’s case, the airline chose not to pursue legal action, so the NCAA followed protocol by petitioning the relevant authorities,” Achimugu explained. “For Emmanson, the airline immediately exercised its right to take the matter to court, likely because its staff had been assaulted.”
He stressed that the NCAA was not directly involved in Emmanson’s prosecution but did place her on a no-fly list, a decision within the legal rights of airline operators.
Addressing reports of a ban on Kwam 1, Achimugu clarified that the musician is under an indefinite suspension — not a six-month ban — pending the outcome of investigations.
The Ibom Air incident, which happened on the Uyo–Lagos route, has sparked debates over fairness and consistency in handling disruptive passenger cases.
