The Federal Government has commenced payments under its renegotiated agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, issued a directive on Monday to Vice-Chancellors of all federal universities, announcing a 40 per cent increase in the Consolidated Academic Allowance (CAA) for ASUU members, effective from January 1, 2026.

Alausa reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of academic staff and ensuring stability within the university system, noting that some federal universities have already implemented the revised salary structure.

He directed all federal universities to fully comply with the directive by integrating the approved increment into their payroll systems to ensure that all eligible academic staff benefit from the adjustment.

The Minister also emphasised strict compliance with the implementation of the Consolidated Tools Allowance (CATA), explaining that its payment has been approved, circularised by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), and captured in the 2026 budget.

He urged university managements to utilise available resources to ensure the prompt payment of CATA in line with NSIWC guidelines.
